Travel Tips

The concept of a 'best time' is not applicable at the Weir House, as it is pleasant all through the year. Temperatures vary from 25º - 27º C. Since we are situated in what is Sri Lanka's 'Wet Zone' we get greater rainfall than in other areas. The positive side to this is lush greenery and amazing landscapes. Sri Lanka's monsoon season is in May/June and in October/November, but as with most parts of the world that are affected by climate change, weather patterns in Sri Lanka are now unpredictable.

What to Bring

Sri Lanka is a tropical island so light, summer clothing is fine. However, temperatures could fall to 18-200C at night in the months of December and January, and you may need a light shawl or sweater. We provide insect repellant at the Weir House, but if you have a preferred brand bring it along. Insects are not really a problem at the House, but as we are out in nature, the rare, bothersome insect feels it has as much a right to be out there as you do.

House Information

The Weir House is set on a hill and it is necessary to climb several steps to get to the house. We are sorry but we do not have wheelchair facilities at present. We recommend that parents with children under 8 years are with their children at all times.

Food

We have set menus at mealtime, and are happy to offer options for different dietary requirements. Please let us know ahead of time if you have any special considerations with regard to food or any other matter, and we will oblige you to the best of our ability. You are also more than welcome to use our pantry if you do wish to cook. We do not sell alcohol at the Weir House, but you may bring your alcoholic beverage of choice and we will be happy to serve it to you. Pork and pork products are not served at the House.

Drivers

We have a separate section that can accommodate two drivers/guides who may accompany you on your trip.
